Dude did a Reddit AMA and his gofundme now has nearly $40 grand!

Dude had to spend 25 grand to defend himself for helping friends and fixing their cars for free. I wouldn’t wish this kind of misfortune on anyone.

The worst part is that he has had to pay out all that money to be able to do a hobby that he enjoys from the comfort of his own property, in a legal fashion.

This video really made me mad, not only the guy hasn’t done anything wrong, he’s an amputee and this is his dream hobby. Why does it matter that there is a buisness in a residential area, I would be so happy if my neighbour had a lift.

I mean, I get what they’re after, but their beef is with the county, it shouldn’t be with this guy. What it sounds like is happening is: he’s in furtherance of a hobby which is non-commercial in nature, so it’s not a violation of the as-of-right use he enjoys on the land. But, this hobby is being conducted in something that doesn’t meet the zoning code.
If that’s the case, that’s a legit gripe. I’m sorry. They are right, zoning and land use is there for a reason, and precedents
do
get set. What happens when someone puts up a 75 car garage and lets their friends store their collectibles there? It’s the same problem with respect to the land use, and commercial code, and building occupancy, and all of the things that matter within the zoning text... but the county can’t give out different resolutions for a 75 car garage and a 4 car workshop if they function the same and break the same part of the zoning resolution.
But in any case, the beef of the plaintiffs is with the county, it is
not
with the benefactor of lax enforcement. Here in New York, we have an avenue for that, and it’s called an Article 78 proceeding where taxpayers can basically sue the city/state for their inaction or improper decision under the law. But as-it-were, the defendant shouldn’t have had to spend a dollar on those issues until there’s an agency decision.

That’s Delaware...a lot of people in this state have nothing better to do than be like these women.

Question. Do you get a public defender if you’re sued civilly? Seems like if you don’t it’d be easy for rich people to abuse others.

I don’t think you get one. Yea, that’s what rich assholes (like Trump) do - just threaten a lawsuit to intimidate people.

Boy I feel like we have heard a lot about rich people abusing the civil justice system around here lately

Think about it for a second. What if your neighbor decided his business was storing manure? Or slaughtering and dressing cows.

Agreed on all points. I’m picking up little hints in the video that there’s something personal behind this.

Of course there is. They asked him to swap in a used transmission and he told them to fuck right off. Solved.
But really, I’m guessing he basically told them (in kinder words) he won’t do shit for them for free because they aren’t his friends and they got fed up with the impact gun at 9PM since there was no benefit to them.

Noise was one of the things that was mentioned, and that’s the only specific thing I picked up on that I might sympathize with the women over. I don’t know if they’re overemphasizing it, or if he’s downplaying it, or if it’s a little of both, but I’ll admit that I do find my own air compressor to be irritating at times.

Wow these women are huge twunts! I never understood the way people can care about what their neighbor is doing. If you aren’t directly affecting my life, then go about your business. Fuck this pisses me off.

I agree, they should be suing the county.
